Bahrain Championship Qualifiers: Day Two (Afternoon)

It’s round two in Prestatyn today’s final eight matches come to a conclusion. Click below to read how they unfolded…

Experience wins the day…

While yesterday was a day for the young players to shine, tonight largely belonged to some of snooker’s more experienced professionals. Both Li Hang and Stephen Craigie recorded good wins last night but they were defeated today, losing 5-2 to Mark Davis (pictured) and Joe Delaney respectively. Mark now faces Andrew Higginson in the next round while Delaney meets another veteran, Redcar’s Mike Dunn.

Other veterans moving into the third round were Andy Hicks, Rod Lawler and Paul Davies who also managed to see off considerably younger opposition. It just goes to show the value of experience, as well as the depth of talent on the main tour these days as the younger players don’t have it all their way.

…though Muldoon proved the exception

One young player who did move into the third round tonight however was 18-year-old Vinnie Muldoon who recorded an impressive 5-2 win over Scott MacKenzie. The match initially looked like it was going to be a close affair as Scott levelled it at 2-2 but Muldoon then moved up a gear and took the next three frames to seal the victory. Next up for Vinnie is a mouthwatering clash with another teenager, Grand Prix semi-finalist Judd Trump.
