According to The Mail, it looks like Clive Everton’s days as the lead BBC commentator could be coming to an end following this year’s UK Championship…
If this report is accurate then this would be a huge shame for snooker in the UK because Clive, generally regarded by fans as the voice of snooker, is as knowledgeable and as enthusiastic about the game as anyone around. Having commentated on the World Championship since 1978, it just wouldn’t be the same without him, particularly as he still has so much to offer in the role.
I have nothing against Ken Doherty, indeed he is my second-favourite snooker player of all-time, but to replace Clive with him for me is a questionable move, particularly given that Ken is still a competitive player who is still in the early days of his TV career. I am sure that Ken will prove to be a great commentator but I would be disappointed to see it come at the expense of Clive.
I can only hope that the prove to be somewhat premature, hopefully Dave Hendon can clarify the situation in his blog…
