Good news for everyone involved in snooker today as it seems that the World Championship WILL be sponsored after all…
Details are sketchy ahead of an official announcement next week but Dave Hendon has confirmed on Snooker Scene Blog today that after the withdrawal of 888.com, there will be a title sponsor for the World Championship in 2009.
Whoever it may be, this can only be good news for the image of the sport and perhaps more importantly, WSA’s financial reserves which would have taken another huge hit had they had to stage the tournament and award prize money without sponsorship as was the case with the Masters in January.
On a less serious note, hopefully whoever it is will have a nice colour in their logo as I never really took to the green 888.com set at the Crucible!
