Congratulations to young Scot Anthony McGill who has captured the Scottish Amateur Open (not the Championship as previously reported), with a 5-1 victory over another promising player, Michael Leslie…
To read about how he did it, please click here to read a match report on The Scotsman. You can also read about his deciding frame victory in the semi-finals by clicking here.
18-year-old McGill is one of the players I featured in my recent Young Guns piece and by taking this title has taken another step towards achieving the dream of making it onto the main tour in the near future, though this event does not carry a national nomination.
A word on his opponent too, 16-year-old Michael Leslie (who recently made the last 16 of the European under-19’s Championship before losing to eventual winner Luca Brecel), also appears to be one to watch so it will be interesting to see how he progresses over the coming seasons.
