Congratulations to Sam Baird who with a 6-5 victory over David Craggs in the final of the EASB play-offs becomes the latest player to earn a spot on the main tour for 2009/10…

Having finished 9th in the rankings, Sam Baird got off to a good start in the play-offs with comfortable victories over Jeff Cundy and Adam Wicheard before coming through a couple of tight matches with Sean Bullock and 2009/10 Paul Hunter Scholar Jack Lisowski to make it into the final. There he met David Craggs who not only finished up in 5th place in the rankings, but also reached the final of the English Amateur Championship where he lost out 9-8 to Jimmy Robertson last week.
Unfortunately for David he was to suffer more heartbreak tonight as after what appears to have been another dramatic match, it was Sam who managed to come through 6-5 in a deciding frame and book a place on the main tour next season as a result.
Congratulations to Sam who when celebrating his 21st birthday three weeks from now, will have even more to smile about. It has been a tough couple of weeks for Craggs though and it looks like he will now have to rely on being given one of the discretionary places available at the end of the season if he is to join Baird among the 96.

I watched the early part of the final, Craggsy looked to be in better shape than Sam to be fair, and he will be gutted to lose from 5-1 up. Well done to Sam though, I tipped him to get on through the PIOS this year but EASB it is.
All in all though, the play-offs were again a great success and I really enjoyed playing and watching a lot of very good quality matches.

Wow I didn’t know that he went 5-1 up, the only information I could find on it was the final score on Global Snooker.
Cheers for that Matt.
