PartyCasino.com Premier League Snooker 2009: Week Nine News

Night nine of the Premier League sees reigning world champion John Higgins take on Premier League debutant Judd Trump in Weston-super-Mare, as well as a clash between Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson in the second match…

John Higgins 4-2 Judd Trump

57-35, 63(63)-65(65), 40-65, 88(53)-79, 78(74)-5, 107(32, 75)-1

Earlier on in the competition Judd came from behind to defeat a Scottish legend in the shape of Stephen Hendry but tonight the boot was on the other foot as John Higgins took the last three frames to record a 4-2 victory and seal his place in the finals weekend later this month.

It could have been so different though as having moved into a 2-1 lead at the halfway point, Judd looked on course to secure at least a point from the evening until crucially a missed blue to the green pocket proved to be the turning point. From here John managed to level the match at 2-2 before taking the next two in little more than 20 minutes to complete an important turnaround.

Now on eight points, Higgins is sure of a place in the last four and intriguingly, has a chance to possibly knock defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan out of the tournament if he can defeat the world number one in his final match.  With the pressure off and nothing to play for (well, bar the money), it will be interesting to see if he can relax and push Ronnie all the way…

Shaun Murphy 4-2 Neil Robertson

68(40)-37(36), 75(55)-99(37), 119(104)-6, 73(64)-8, 0-109(109) 94(45)-8

Grand Prix champion Neil Robertson cannot now qualify for the final stages of the Premier League following a 4-2 reverse against former world champion Shaun Murphy.
