Another day, another piece of good news for snooker as it has been announced that Totesport.com will sponsor the Welsh Open this year…
Without a sponsor since Regal’s enforced exit back in 2003, the Welsh Open has long been a costly event for World Snooker to run but hopefully this burden will have been eased somewhat following this announcement. Totesport too are a sponsor with previous involvement in snooker as they sponsored the Grand Prix back in 2004.
The tournament might struggle in the prestige stakes, this year in particular given the reduced ranking points on offer in comparison to the tournaments out in China, but as one of just six ranking events on the calendar this year is as important to the players as ever.
