50 up for Evans?

IF Reanne Evans wins her first match at the South Coast Classic in Eastbourne this weekend, she will have chalked up a staggering 50 straight singles victories on the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association (WLBSA) circuit…

The 24-year-old five-time WLBSA world champion will be in action at the Q-Ball Snooker Club on Saturday (February 6). The tournament kicks off at 10am.

Evans, who is also chasing a 21st WLBSA title, said: “It’s been a while since the last event and I’m looking forward to trying to maintain my unbeaten run.”

In last year’s South Coast Classic final, Evans beat Maria Catalano – her good friend from Dudley – 3-0. Catalano is the 27-year-old cousin of Ronnie O’Sullivan.

Among those hoping to end Evans’ run are Emma Bonney, the world number three from Portsmouth, and Katie Henrick, the world number four from Bickley, Kent.

Ten-year-old Jasmine Bolsover, based at Woking Snooker Centre, will make her WLBSA debut in the South Coast Classic.

Jasmine is a product of the association’s scholarship scheme which offers free membership and free tournament entry to girls aged under 16.

She has already impressed with a 2-1 victory over Eastbourne’s Martina Lumsden (the world number nine) on the Ladies Tour run by the English Association of Snooker & Billiards.

A high-quality 23-strong field also includes eight-time German national champion Natascha Niermann and Derby’s 13-year-old England international Hannah Jones.

The South Coast Classic is the fourth of six ranking events this season. The draw takes place at 9.45am. Colin Selby is the Tournament Director.

Would be interesting to see how well Reanne would do if they gave her a Wildcard for the 2010/2011 main tour, would definately mix things up anyway.

I will be in Eastbourne and of course take pictures ;) (it’s one of mines there). Reanne in the past has entered the PIOS but couldn’t qualify for the MT. I think she’s sharper now though and maybe she should try again. She needs tougher competition to progress and currently doesn’t get it on the ladies tour.
I’m also interested to see how the youngsters are doing: Hannah, Naomi, Jodie and the nexcomer, 10 yo Jasmine.

Sorry I couldn’t remember whether that pic was one of yours or one of Janie’s!

She should really give it a go at the PIOS as I think she played very well at the 6-reds-WC.
And if it’s a money problem we could try and raise some through this forum. :) If 100 people would spend 5 € each, might that be enough for the starting fee?

Absolute rubbish, why should she get a freebie into a tournament just because she is female. Snooker tournaments are bases on merit, the ability to play and compete at the highest levels. All she is is an average player, theres literally thousands out there who are far better snooker players who wont be getting ‘wildcard’ invitations. 6 red championship is complete nonsense and well documented, erm, think less said about higgins the better on here. Snooker is all about encouraging up and coming players, whether they be women or men, regardless of age, they should be encouraged an nurtured by accomplished knowledgeable helpful professionals. I just can hop onto this ‘female’ sports wagon. Women fought for equal rights, and thats a great thing, but now they have them, they want to invent sports exclusively for women, which is fair enough again, but not at the expense of far more talented players being denied the same rights.
