Thirapongpaiboon Makes Maiden Max

Congratulations to Thailand’s Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon who yesterday became the youngest ever player to make a maximum 147 break in professional competition. In doing so he becomes the 74th ever player to achieve the feat and the fourth this season.

The maximum came during a 4-1 defeat to Barry Hawkins but although he does not receive a financial reward for the feat, it is nevertheless a special achievement, particularly for a man of just 16 years and 312 days of age. As stated on WorldSnooker.com, he did not just beat the previous record but he absolutely smashed it as the previous youngest maker of a 147 was Stephen Maguire when he was a relatively old 19 years of age!

The 147 was also the first refereed by Belgian referee Olivier Marteel, no doubt a special moment for him too.

Another win for Steve, 2-1 down to Wells and then the master motored through 4-2! The more he plays the better Steve gets. With Williams out Steve has Higginson and Greene potentially to make it through to the last 8! He knows he needs the pts this event to get back in the top 32 mix. He still shows his form when the chips are down. Having pulled out of the last event this is true greatness coming through at such an age. Come on Steve, this draw is opening up!

Anyone can get into it with one win or a final appearance if they have a few points built up.

Has Davis played enough tournaments to qualify. He was 2-0 down by the way to Wells. Davis was 60 odd points up in second frame and Wells came back to win it, so showed good discipline to come back.

2-0 up v Higginson and then 47-0 upin 3rd but just lost it. Hope not going to be a reverse from previous match. Bottom half opening up if Luca can complete a win against Fu. Steve could get to semis and make 1280 pts before playing top 8 player. Would propel him back into top 32 or thereabouts. Every frame is massiv efor the nugget as he must stay in touch with top 32 to have a realistic chance of the crucible come April!

3-2 up. Again Higginson stole the frame from 44-0 down. Should have been 4-0 to Steve and now its going close. Liu 3-2 up so last 16 match v Liu Chaung. Would have taken that at start of the day. Steve make hay now please! Finish off Mr Higginson and then move up a gear tomorrow and make that last 4! You can do it!
