This week at the Welsh Open qualifiers there was a bit of a debate among some of the referees as to who has officiated the most maximum breaks in professional competition ever. With a number currently on YouTube it is possible to identify a few but for some it will come down to whether or not anyone from the time actually remembers! One for the real snooker purists this one…

Of course some are easier than others, indeed Ronnie O’Sullivan’s recent max at the World Open will be remembered mostly for Jan Verhaas having to prompt him to pot the final black. Another that sticks in my mind was Stephen Hendry’s in the deciding frame of the Charity Challenge back in 1997 against Ronnie with Alan Chamberlain spotting the balls.
If you know of any answers then please feel free to let me know by leaving a comment and if we get a few suggestions I will put a table up.
Good one for those with a stash of old Snooker Scene magazines in the attic…
