Awaiting the winner of that tie between Ding and O’Sullivan (a repeat of their infamous 2007 final of course), will be either Judd Trump or Stuart Bingham, both making their first appearances in the tournament as top 16 players having both made it through the old qualification phase in the past.
Elsewhere there is an excellent tie in prospect between Neil Robertson and Mark Allen, the two having met recently in the semi-finals of the PTC8 event in Killarney, Robertson winning 4-3 on his way to the title. Completing the top half are Mark Williams and Stephen Maguire.
Over in the bottom half of the draw, Mark Selby and Stephen Lee will clash in a repeat of the 2008 final won 10-3 by Selby while Shaun Murphy and Martin Gould will meet in a repeat of last season’s PTC Grand Finals. Ali Carter and Graeme Dott will lock horns having met earlier this season at the Crucible while John Higgins and Matthew Stevens will meet in a match between two former winners of the event at the Wembley Conference Centre.
This year though the tournament will head to Alexandra Palace for the first time and tickets are now available. To book call 0871 620 7052 (calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras) or visit www.worldsnooker.com/tickets.
