World Open Qualifiers 2012: Day Two Round-Up

Day two from the World Open qualifiers and unfortunately a somewhat shorter update from me due to the onset of a particularly nasty cold! Still, the action continues and at the time of writing it has been a strong day for the lower seeds, seven having won against higher ranked opponents already…

Having both emerged victorious yesterday, it was to be another good day for Sam Baird and Sam Craigie as both made it through to the third qualifying round following 5-1 victories against Liu Chuang and Barry Pinches respectively. Both in need of good results between now and the end of the season if they are to bring themselves into contention for a top 64 place in May, they will now meet Jimmy White and Robert Milkins, Craigie and White in a repeat of their recent clash at PTC9.

Also a winner today was Adam Duffy who continued his quietly impressive début season with a 5-2 win against Thai number one James Wattana this evening. Next up for him will be another veteran as he takes on former world finalist Nigel Bond for a place in the last 48.

Elsewhere, Jimmy Robertson defeated On Q Promotions stablemate Andrew Norman 5-2 to set up a repeat of his World Championship qualifier with Ireland’s Ken Doherty, while there were also important victories for Tony Drago, Ian McCulloch, Alfie Burden and and Dave Harold as they fought for crucial ranking points.
