Bingham Makes Max, Trails Walden

Congratulations to Stuart Bingham who this morning has become the third player to make a maximum break of 147 in a ranking-event final, during the sixth frame of his Wuxi Classic title match with Ricky Walden.

Capitalising on a missed long red from Ricky, Stuart found himself immediately in around the black spot and although the maximum appeared to be on from an early stage, nevertheless held himself together to compile what is the third maximum of his professional career.

In doing so, Stuart follows in the footsteps of Stephen Hendry (1999 British Open final), and John Higgins (2003 LG Cup final), as the third man to record a 147 break in a ranking event final and also becomes only the seventh player ever to have compiled three or more maximum breaks in professional competition.

The break earns Stuart the tournament high break prize of £2,000, in addition to the rolling TV prize of £5,000.

The maximum was also the second officiated by referee Brendan Moore, following that of Stuart’s opponent Ricky Walden last year at the PTC10 event in Sheffield.

Unfortunately for Stuart however, the break is a bittersweet moment in what so far has been a difficult final in which he currently trails 6-1 with one more frame to follow during this session…
