A short post to highlight the release of the entry pack for August’s Paul Hunter Classic tournament, which you can access here in pdf format at World Snooker…
Of most interest is the confirmation of a new dress code for snooker’s European Tour (formerly PTC) events, which I noticed a few of the players making reference to on Twitter a few weeks ago.
Rather curiously, this states that players competing in the amateur pre-qualifying rounds are expected to wear evening dress, waistcoats and bow tie, but from the last 128 stage, players must wear a polo shirt supplied by the governing body.
Generally speaking, this appears to be a logical move to me in smaller events such as this, indeed you can read my blog on the subject from last season by clicking here. For the major events then I would not be as keen to see such a change, but for the European Tour events, where most of the matches are not televised, then I see no harm in relaxing the traditional dress code to some degree.
Otherwise, the pack confirms that at four European Tour events, there will again be an amateur only event, running alongside the main competition and ultimately leading to main tour places for three players, while the closing date for entry to the main competition is Monday 22nd July 2013 at 12pm.
