Asian Tour Event One Postponed

A bit of news from this morning from World Snooker, who have announced that the first event of this season’s Asian Tour has been postponed until October.

When looking at the calendar, the October dates were previously allocated for the AT2 event, so it would appear that the September event has effectively been cancelled, with AT2 now becoming AT1.

If there is to be only one Asian Tour event held this season, it will be interesting to see how the eight Players Championship places and four main tour cards for next season are allocated, as it would be strange to see these determined by a single event. That World Snooker have mentioned this in their statement today would suggest that they are working on an alternative.

Official statement follows…

The first Asian Tour event of the 2015/16 season has been postponed and will now take place in China from October 19 to 23.

The tournament was previously scheduled for September 22 to 26.

World Snooker will issue guidance on the impact of this development regarding Tour cards and the qualifying criteria for the Players Championship shortly.
