Ali Carter was one of the stars of the first day of the Championship League as he set a target for the high break with a 136, but he could not do enough to finish on top of the table. Click below to find out who got the better of him…

He might have made his debut in the Championship League today but Stephen Maguire certainly needed little time to adapt as he won all four of his matches to all but book his place in the semi-finals tomorrow. Despite losing to the Scot late in the day, Ali Carter is also well-placed with three wins from three, as is Mark Selby whose only loss came against Carter early in the day.
Not doing so well however are Ryan Day and Shaun Murphy who are both winless from their three matches today. Reigning world champion John Higgins is also struggling having won just one match while defending Championship League champion Judd Trump has two.
With draws not an option this year, everyone still has a chance but Murphy and Day in particular will have to start well on day two…
