Day two of the 2010 Wuxi Classic and Mark Allen’s title defence remains on track following a 5-3 victory over Marco Fu, avenging his defeat in the final of last season’s Championship League. Shaun Murphy, Ding Junhui and Tian Pengfei also progressed…
Following an impressive 5-2 victory over Chinese number two Liang Wenbo yesterday, Marco Fu looked set to advance further in the tournament today as he moved 3-1 up on defending champion Mark Allen with top breaks of 131 and 75 early on. Mark though is a man in good form at the moment and obviously comfortable playing in Asia following his victory here last year and his recent run in the China Open, and he demonstrated this again by reeling off the next four frames to book his place in this year’s semi-finals.
There he will play Shaun Murphy who also put on a real show, hammering Stephen Hendry 5-1 with breaks of 113, 100, 86 and 86. Stephen will be disappointed after a solid performance against Xiao Guodong yesterday but Shaun is a player who he has struggled to get the better of over the last couple of seasons and that proved to be the case again.
The second semi-final will be an all-China affair meanwhile as Ding Junhui comes up against the ever-improving Tian Pengfei who with wins over Mark Selby and Joe Perry this week has surely strengthened his case for one of the remaining wildcard spots on the main tour next season.
