Congratulations to Thailand’s Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon who yesterday became the youngest ever player to make a maximum 147 break in professional competition. In doing so he becomes the 74th ever player to achieve the feat and the fourth this season.

The maximum came during a 4-1 defeat to Barry Hawkins but although he does not receive a financial reward for the feat, it is nevertheless a special achievement, particularly for a man of just 16 years and 312 days of age. As stated on WorldSnooker.com, he did not just beat the previous record but he absolutely smashed it as the previous youngest maker of a 147 was Stephen Maguire when he was a relatively old 19 years of age!
The 147 was also the first refereed by Belgian referee Olivier Marteel, no doubt a special moment for him too.
