Ryan Day just had a fabulous chance to make what would have been his first maximum 147 break during his semi-final with Ali Carter, but unfortunately ran out of position on the final yellow and broke down on 120.
The reds were perfectly positioned but he just came wrong side on the final red and had to leave himself with a tricky black to take on. Although he pulled out a terrific pot, he could only leave himself a tough double on the yellow and it was to be one shot too far. That’s the second great chance of a max this week after Peter Ebdon’s attempt previously, perhaps it will be third time lucky before the tournament has come to an end.
For what it’s worth, he had at least done enough to win the frame of course, levelling the match at 1-1…
