Scottish Snooker Stars On Cue For Nudge Day

Scotland’s top snooker players today urged Scots to play it safe when it comes to bowel cancer and take the test for Nudge Day, Friday 19 April 2013.

The four cue stars who will hit the green baize this weekend for the World Championships at the Crucible, took time out from training to promote Nudge Day – a national day of action as part of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month – to encourage Scots to ‘nudge’ older family members to get tested for bowel cancer.

Former four-time World Champion, John Higgins was joined by Stephen Maguire, Graeme Dott and Marcus Campbell. He said, “Some of the boys have experienced cancer in their family so it resonates with us. It’s still a shock to hear that bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in Scotland. Even though 4,000 Scots are diagnosed every year, it’s encouraging that nine out of 10 people survive the disease if it is caught and treated early.

“Nudge Day is a great excuse to pester family members and explain the benefits of taking the bowel screening test. Some people find it embarrassing to talk about but doing the test could save your life.”

Marcus Campbell kicks off the Snooker World Championships tomorrow, Saturday 20 April, when he plays the opening match against current World Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan at the Crucible theatre in Sheffield.
