While in recent years we have seen events such as the World Seniors Championship and the Snooker Legends establish themselves on the snooker circuit, there remains a distinct lack of a real seniors tour in existence.
This could be about to change however, with the launch of the International Senior Snooker Players Association (SSPA) Open Tour, the brainchild of former professionals John Welsh and Robert Marshall.
Open to all players over-40, including professionals and amateurs, the tour will see a series of events staged at top venues across the UK and Ireland, including the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds and the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.
With ranking points and prize money available at all tournaments, hopefully the events will see good entry lists and with a number of current professionals already signed up, grow rapidly over the coming months.
