Joy for Jogia as Wattana moves closer to tour return

Congratulations to Joe Jogia who today won the last PIOS event of the season to cap a memorable week which has seen him top the rankings and so regain his tour status for next season. Another player close to doing the same thing is Thai hero James Wattana who is now just one match away from returning…

Both finalists in today’s PIOS Event Eight finale might already have been sure of a return to the main tour next season but Joe Jogia and Ben Woollaston were both determined to finish the season with a trophy and played out a really close match.

Every time I refreshed the relevant page over at Global Snooker it seemed like Ben would edge a frame ahead before Joe levelled things up again and as they came down to a deciding frame, I just had the feeling somehow that Joe would snatch it and indeed he did. Both will be happy though because as stated yesterday, they have both finished inside the top eight and will be eligible for a return to the main tour for 2009/10.

Another player who is close to joining them meanwhile is former world number three James Wattana (also known as Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Orm), who has progressed to the final of the 2009 Asian Championship, currently taking place out in Tangshan, China.

It would be great to see him back on the main tour but first he has to find a way to beat home favourite Mei Xiwen who has already showed his class this week to beat Tian Pengfei and Cao Xinlong who were both wildcard entrants into the China Open last month…
