Hossein Vafaei Ayouri Beats Boileau For IBSF World U-21 Title

Congratulations to Iran’s Hossein Vafaei Ayouri, who has today defeated Ireland’s Josh Boileau 8-3 to win the 2014 IBSF World Under-21 Championship in Al Fujairah, UAE.

As well as being another prestigious amateur title to his name, the victory carries with it a two-year tour card from the 2015/16 season, but for Vafaei the priority will be to resolve the visa issues that have left him unable to compete on the professional circuit for the past two seasons.

Q School 2014: Starts Saturday

Well you didn’t think that we could go a week without a snooker tournament did you? Five days on from Mark Selby’s Crucible triumph, snooker’s strongest amateurs will begin their latest battle for main tour places tomorrow at the 2014 Q School.

Set to be held for the first time at the South West Snooker Academy, the two events will be held between 10-21 May 2014, with eight professional places up for grabs for the winner of each event.

Malaysia’s Leong Wins 2014 Asian Championship, Earns Tour Card

While Mark Selby was on the way to his first world title earlier this week, over in Al Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, there was also a landmark success for Malaysia’s Rory Thor Chuan Leong, who claimed victory at the 2014 Asian Championship.

Defeating Taiwan’s Hung Chung Ming 7-3, the 25-year-old will now be nominated for one of the 132 places on next season’s main tour, as detailed within my ‘making 132’ article here.
