International Championship 2012: Qualifying Draw Available

Following Martin Gould’s victory at UKPTC2, the action continues this week in Sheffield as the European Tour 2 event will be whittled down to 32 players, who will be taken to the venue stages in Poland in the first week of October. You can view the drawsheet for the ‘pre-qualifying’ rounds here.

Soon to follow next week however will be qualifying rounds of the biggest tournament of the new season so far, the new International Championship, which with prize money and ranking points equivalent to that of the UK Championship on offer, has unsurprisingly seen all competing (ie no Stephen Hendry or Joe Jogia), players ranked inside the world’s not 64 enter.

The full qualifying draw was this week published by World Snooker and you can now view that here at PSB by clicking here, with an in-depth preview to follow on Saturday.

Today saw the much-anticipated draw made for the last 32 stage of the 2012 World Championship as the qualifiers were paired with their respective top 16 opponents.

The stand-out match without doubt has to be that between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Peter Ebdon, not only because of the obvious clash of styles, but also the fact that Peter comes into the event on the back of such a strong run of form.

Otherwise Stephen Hendry faces a re-match with Stuart Bingham, the man who knocked him out at the same stage back in 2000 and who he will play on the opening Saturday, barely a day after returning from his trip to China on promotional work this week, while Ken Doherty faces Australia’s Neil Robertson.

Full, detailed thoughts on the draw will of course follow between now and Saturday but in the meantime please click here to view the order of play for the first round matches at the Crucible.

Another day, another drawsheet as World Snooker have published both the amateur and professional stage draws for the PTC3 event which takes place between the 17-21 August 2011 at the Academy in Sheffield.

A full preview from me will appear closer to the event but ties that immediately stand out include those between Ronnie O’Sullivan and David Gilbert, Stephen Hendry and Liam Highfield, as well as Mark King v Tian Pengfei.
