Having finished as runner-up in the first event of this season’s European Tour in Riga earlier in the month, Mark Allen went one better this evening by defeating Judd Trump 4-2 to win the 2014 Paul Hunter Classic in Germany.

Snooker Returns to Fürth, Draw Available
The snooker circus rolls on to Furth this weekend with the second event of the 2014/15 European Tour and it promises to be another interesting weekend, with the return of defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, who will be playing in his first competitive tournament since his defeat to ET1 winner Mark Selby at last season’s World Championship.

How Rolling Are The Rankings?
Following Mark Selby’s victory at the first European Tour event of the season, it had been anticipated that the victory would be enough to see him climb back above Neil Robertson into top spot in snooker’s latest world rankings.
It now seems though that in fact the rankings will not be officially revised until after the next full ranking event, next month’s Shanghai Masters.

Mark Selby is the 2014 Riga Open champion, the new world champion coming back from 3-0 down to defeat Mark Allen in a deciding frame this evening and get his season off to a flying start in Latvia.

Hawes and Curtis Supply European Tour Shirts
World Snooker’s European Tour events have a new dress code this season, with shirts to be supplied by renowned clothing firm Hawes and Curtis.
The six events across continental Europe, starting with the Riga Open in Latvia which started today, will see players wearing black tailored shirts together with black or dark tailored trousers.
The shirts are supplied by Hawes and Curtis, a London-based firm established in 1913 with the intention of creating high quality, exclusive clothing. Hawes & Curtis have been acclaimed by royalty and aristocracy alike; most famously by the Duke of Windsor and Earl Mountbatten.
Kaspersky lab Sponsor Riga Open
World Snooker is delighted to announce Kaspersky lab as the title sponsor of the new Riga Open, which starts tomorrow.
The Kaspersky lab Riga Open is the first ever professional snooker tournament in Latvia and the first event of the 2014/15 European Tour series.
Back to the Baize
So after a month away from the baize, the majority of snooker’s professional players will be back on the baize this week as the first of this season’s six European Tour events gets underway in Riga, Latvia.
ET1 Draw Now Available
Following the current extended July break, the next professional action will come from Riga at the first event of the 2014/15 European Tour in Latvia and following the passing of the tournament’s entry deadline earlier this week, World Snooker have today revealed the draw and format for the event.

At first glance, the field is an extremely strong one, with only Ronnie O’Sullivan, Ali Carter and Chinese trio Ding Junhui, Xiao Guodong and Liang Wenbo absent from the top 32. Other absentees from the top 64 are former world champion Ken Doherty, Tom Ford, Cao Yupeng, Yu Delu and Pankaj Advani.
The event will run from 7th August 2014 and will be the first of six European Tour events staged this season, with tour places at stake for both professionals and amateurs, as well as 32 spots in the lucrative Grand Finals event, currently scheduled to be held in Thailand next March.
