2008/9
Finishing in third place in the national rankings behind Brendan O’Donoghue and Mario Fernandez, David entered the European Championships knowing that he would almost certainly have to win the event to book a place on the main tour in 2009/10.
His campaign got off to a good start as he advanced from Group H with five wins from six to book a last 32 clash with Yvan Van Velthoven. Winning comfortably, his next match was to be his closest of the tournament as he snuck through 5-4 against Sean Bullock to advance to the last 8.
From there he never really looked back, cruising past Tony Drago and Sascha Lippe at the loss of just one frame, before coming up against national rival Fernandez in the final and winning the match 7-4. As a result, David not only became the 2009 EBSA European Champion, but would step up to the professional circuit for the 2009/10 season.
2009/10
By winning his opening matches at the UK and World Championship tournaments against Noppadol Sangnil and Li Hang respectively, David managed to score well in the season’s two biggest tournaments and give himself a chance of remaining on the main tour as a result.
Unfortunately however, first round defeats in each of the season’s other four tournaments were to prove costly and he was to lose his tour status as a result, finishing 85th in the season-ending rankings.
2011/12
Back on tour in 2011/12, David was to again struggle for results, winning just two matches during the PTC events, while also finding wins hard to come by in qualifying for the season’s major events. His best run was to come at the Shanghai Masters qualifiers where he was to receive two byes before losing 5-0 to Scotland’s Anthony Hamilton in the third round.
Following his defeat to Tom Ford at PTC11, David elected not to enter another professional event during the season, thus confirming his relegation from the main tour.
