These are the very latest provisional rankings which will come into effect following the first revision of the 2010/11 season which is scheduled to take place on the 3rd October 2010 following the second EPTC Event.

*Note that for the 2008/9 column I have excluded the 2008 Northern Ireland Trophy, 2008 Shanghai Masters and 2008 Grand Prix tournaments as these points will no longer count following the October revision.

The events are: Players Tour Championship (PTC), European Players Tour Championship (EPTC), Shanghai Masters (SM) and the World Open (WO).

Note that I will include the minimum points that the players will earn for each of the events between now and the next revision.

While a player remains in a tournament their points tally will be displayed in green.

Once a player is out of a tournament, their points for that event will be displayed in red to reflect that they cannot increase that total.

Should a player win a tournament, their points tally will be displayed in gold.

working out the ranking points and positions for Ranking enthusiasts will prove hard this season to see who would be seeded where for important mile stones like World,UK and especially the Masters where theres only 18 that can play in it.

so having this blog and your hard work will help a lot

    Nice Work Matt

    thats the right Ranking list

I hope so, it’s not very clear at the moment but it’s a guide if nothing else.

Maybe I should change it to unofficial rankings.

no that is the right provisionals especially top part bottom part isnt clear yet but im sure that will get sorted.

no point having selby up at 9th provisional as in global if it will mean nothing at the cut off point.

Good work, Matt. To me, this is the right way. For fans and indeed pros the most essential piece of info must be the race to the next cut off point. Not to say “the Global method” would be completely useless (as it covers the seeding aspect) but at the end of the day I don’t find the official provisional lists too useful under the current ranking system.

Hopefully WS would now sort the starter points and other things out quickly so that everyone can move on.

I make Dings total 36450 and Copes 22838

am interested to see how starter points work – per Janie Watkins all new players start with 10890 meaning Couch, P Davies, J White and Bedford are provisionally 93rd to 96th

So glad to have found someone else who not only likes to keep track of progress but is also dedicated enough to post to the web. Amazing.

I have found a couple of discrepencies compared with my spreadsheet:-
    Ding Junhui – Bahrain 08 0, UK 08 2850, Welsh 08 1900, China 09 700, Worlds 09 3800 = 9250, Total 36450
    Jamie Copie – Bahrain 08 700, UK 08 863, Welsh 08 575, China 09 1400, Worlds 09 3800 = 7336, Total 22838
    Ricky Walden – PTC 1 10 360, Total 18155.

    I agree with everything else.

Please let me know if you think I’m right
    Cheers
    Loz

Joe Swail has 360 points for PTC2 and the 1st round loser points for those outside the top 96 for Shanghai are 280.

thanks for having your rankings done so quick Matt – it helped me spot my mistakes

Also, Dominic Dale’s 09/10 points are 7990 not 9420 (but you have calculated his Total correctly already).
And Andrew Higginson is 35th, not 33, hehe ;)
Anyway, thanks for your great work on this!

Will Higgins retain his minimum points if he is unable to play in Shangai and the World Open?

If not, Robertson will be the new number one in a couple of months.

    Matt

with the draw for the World Open out today and no John Higgins in the Draw i think you will find John is on 46,470 points and second in the rankings behind Neil Robertson.

What about Liu Song? Does he earn ranking points in the up-coming events or what? Should he be on the ranking or is he only on the tour as long as Higgins is out? I don’t find him either here or on worldsnookers rankings. This has me a bit puzzled as how to consider him myself. Any ideas?

    Thanks, Toni

The system in place for many years has been explained here:

    http://prosnookerblog.com/2010/01/01/fight-for-the-96-201011/

From now on however there will be a new system in place in which the top 64 are guaranteed to stay on tour as now, but the other spots will change. I believe the allocation will be something like:

    England 1
    Wales 1
    Scotland 1
    Northern Ireland 1
    Irish Republic 1
    Asia 3
    Europe 2

would be nice if the official rankings were in brackets beside the number. That way we wouldnt have to keep skipping back and forward to check a players progress.

I’ll bear that in mind and maybe add it, though I am short of room at the moment which is why I have had to omit the 2010/11 points column.

Hi Matt, thanks for (again) being the first.

I tink though that Jogia has a few points more. On my list he has 8960, If I add the numbers on your list I get that number also.

Sorry for not putting it in one question,

but I noticed that there are a few players (Jamie Jones, Andrew Pagett, James McBain, Liu Chuang, Paul S Davison, Kudelsh Johal) that had points for 2008/09 but were not on the tour for 2009/10.

Shouldn’t those points also be taken into account? In the past this ‘problem’ couldn’t occur but nowadays it can.

    regards,
    John

no once a player is relegated his points are deleted for ever and they become amateurs again and when they get back on tour they go back on the same criteria as other new pros.

Dominic Dale got 1280 points like Mark Williams, you have still the 760

  41. August 17, 2010 at 7:13 am

    Orange = PTC events winners

No Liu Song on the ranking list, Matt?

Matt, It seems unfair that the likes of Tony Drago and others who joined the tour this season or last season have no points to take through for the 2008/09 season.

For example Drago is placed 59th, having finished the season 54th and he has done relatively well in the PTC.

Historically, there has been starter points and Drago (and others) had 5850 for the 2008/09 season – These surely shouldn’t all be dropped as it means they have less counting tournaments, so a proportion should stay – if this was say 3500, then Drago would rise to 49th and if it was 3600 or more, he’d be in the top 48. It only seems fair as they give starter points for all those who didn’t take part in 2009/10, that there should be dwindling proportio of started points for all those who didn’t take part in 2009/10.

    Jan,

As Mignon said, the orange numbers are for the event winners. I will make that a bit clearer though.

    Mal,

Agree about the starter points and I do understand that changes are going to be made on that front, though exactly how I do not know. Watch this space!

Oh and re: Liu Song, I understand that he is not being awarded points, merely an opportunity to play at this stage.

    Hi Matt,

I think I’ve spot another two discrepancies:
    - Dominic Dale earned 7990 points last season, not 9420. His total is correct however.
    - Joe Jogia’s total should be 8960, not 8785.

    Cheers,

    Jan

Have amended Dominic’s total but I’m not seeing where I’ve gone wrong on Joe’s total, can you help me out with that one? :D

    You’ve got Jogia’s individual points right, it’s just that 5700 + 1000 + 360 + 360 + 910 + 630 = 8960, not 8785. :)

Actually I think it should be 455 for the World Open shouldn’t it? That’s the discrepancy now I look at it :D

    Hi Matt,

I compared my own excel sheet with your rankings and noticed one difference: Rory McLeod won his match vs Kuldesh Johal in round 2, so he should receive 1610 points for the World Open.

Another thing, are you planning on setting up one year rankings again? Just studied mine and noticed some interesting facts:
    1. Mark Davis,
    2. Barry Pinches,
    3. Judd Trump,

    8. Tom Ford,

    12. Alfie Burden,

    18. Anthony McGill,

    20. Igor Figueiredo,

    26. Tony Drago
    (with i.e. Ronnie O’Sullivan just 27.)…

    Cheers, Jan

    Hi Jan,

Thanks for that spot, I always miss one!

I would definitely like to set up the one years, it’s just time. Taken me about 3-4 hours to do that unfortunately.

    Will try though.

Matt, I’d help if you want. Could send you my files, or is the time consuming part putting the numbers up on the site? I’ve also got some experience with html and WordPress. :)

Yeah it’s the latter, I can sort them out on my spreadsheet in no time, it’s just putting them onto the site.

I’ll bear it in mind, thanks!

    Hi Matt,
I just noticed you got Stuart Binghams total points wrong, it should read 24150 points instead of 23910.
Do you know for sure that O’Sullivan gets his points for not attending EPTC1? If it is similar to the PIOS tour, he shouldn’t.
    Thanks!

    Bingham’s total should be 24150, Matt ;)
