Career Summary
Like colleague Pete Williamson, Colin Humphries hails from Liverpool and has been a professional referee for the best part of fifteen years now. His first match came on the Challenge Tour in 1996, taking charge of a professional match two years later and since then he has gone on to officiate at prestigious events such as the World Championship at the Crucible.
Other landmarks include his first TV match which came at the 2005 Grand Prix between Matthew Stevens and Dave Harold, as well as having presided over two career 147 breaks, made by Ronnie O’Sullivan and Jamie Burnett during the 2007/8 season.
Colin’s first ranking event final came at the 2009 Welsh Open final where Ali Carter defeated Joe Swail to lift his first major title.
The most memorable match of Colin’s career however must surely be the last 32 clash between Stephen Hendry and Nigel Bond at the 2006 World Championship, only his second ever match at the Crucible. Having seen his 6-3 lead wiped out, Nigel famously hung on to win the match 10-9 on a re-spotted black in front of a capacity crowd in Sheffield.
Away from the table Colin works as a civil servant, while he is also a loyal Everton fan and a regular at Goodison Park.
