World Snooker Rankings 2013/14: Seedings Revision One Round-Up

Last week’s ET2 event marked not only a return to the winners circle for Mark Williams, but also the first mid-season seedings revision of 2013/14. As it happens, Williams is one of the losers at this cut-off as he drops outside of the world’s top 16, while Neil Robertson replaces Mark Selby at the top of the rankings, following his strong start to the new campaign.

This list has now been used to determine the seedings for the upcoming Shanghai Masters tournaments, one of three events this season that will not be staged with a new, flatter draw structure.

Captain Carter Given All Clear

Excellent news tonight as while the ET2 tournament takes place in Rotterdam, closer to home, Ali Carter has tweeted that he has now been given the all-clear by the doctors, following his recent surgery to treat testicular cancer.

Ali’s tweet reads as follows:

“Just had the best news ever! I’ve got the all clear! Will be back in action in the shanghai masters. Thank you everyone for all your support!”

It goes without saying that this is excellent news and I am sure that everyone in the snooker world looks forward to seeing Ali back in action soon!

Closing In On The Cut: July 2013 (Updated)

Following the conclusion of the Australian Goldfields Open yesterday, there is just one more event between now the season’s first seedings revision, ahead of next month’s Shanghai Masters qualifiers.

The event in question is the Rotterdam Open, which will take place this coming weekend and see those in contention battle it out to avoid having to qualify for Shanghai, or at least reduce the amount of matches required to do so.

Get Well Soon Ali Carter

Sad news today, as it was announced by World Snooker that former world number two and three-time ranking event winner Ali Carter has recently been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Due to undergo surgery tomorrow, it goes without saying that I wish the Captain all the best with both the treatment and the subsequent recovery. Having suffered with the effects of Crohn’s disease as he has for a number of years now, it is especially cruel that this has befallen him, but hopefully we will see him fighting fit and back in action on a snooker table as soon as possible.

Ali has today tweeted his thanks to the many well-wishers:

“Thank-you to everyone for there support! Just want to get through this week then I will concentrate on getting better. Love you all!”

“Thank-you all for the continued support, going in for surgery tomorrow afternoon! Will keep you all posted. X”

Closing In On The Cut: July 2013

It might only be June in the 2013/14 season, but already the first seeding revision of the new campaign is fast approaching, with just two more events to come before the places are set for the Shanghai Masters.

While such seedings revisions will take on less significance in this new era of snooker, the Shanghai Masters remains one of the three ranking events to be played under the old system this season, this cut-off is one to keep an eye on.
