The upcoming 2014 World Championship marks not only the 38th time that the tournament will be staged at the iconic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, but on a personal level, the tenth consecutive year that I will have been lucky enough to have been there to see snooker history made in person.

Closing In On The Cut: Crucible 2014 (Updated)

Following the conclusion of the 2014 Haikou World Open yesterday, the picture is now somewhat clearer as far as the World Championship seedings are concerned, with the identity of the top 16 players seeded through to the Crucible Theatre now confirmed.

Still, there are still changes that can occur during the upcoming Players Championship Grand Finals tournament in Preston, both to the placing of the seeds in the main draw and also the top 64 bracket…

Allen Closes In On Crucible Spot

HWOarenaDay three at the Haikou World Open saw the last 32 played out to a conclusion, including victories for big hitters such as Neil Robertson (who took his centuries tally to 91), Mark Selby, Ding Junhui, Judd Trump and John Higgins.

Rankings Update – The Race To The Crucible 2014

AllenThe conclusion of the German Masters marks the fifth mid-season revision of the seeding list and although many eyes will now be on the latest provisional money list, which will determine tour places and come into force at the start of next season, there is one last, crucial cut-off to keep an eye on this year on the points list.

The final, sixth mid-season revision of 2013/14 comes at the end of March, following the Players Championship event currently scheduled to take place in Thailand and the final list following that event will be used to determine the seeding list for the 2014 World Championship at the Crucible.

While there remain five events still to be played between now and that cut-off, the new provisional list, on which all points set to drop between now and then have already been removed, throws up more than a few surprises, with Mark Williams, Matthew Stevens, Graeme Dott and Mark Allen among those who as it stands, would have to qualify to play at the Crucible this year…

Snooker Twitter – Who Are Your Favourites?

Since professional snooker ‘hit’ Twitter two or three years ago, it has given us a fascinating insight into the personalities of a number of the players, officials and other characters involved in the game.

What is interesting to me is the different ways that players use Twitter, for example you have the banter of Mark Williams, the forthright opinions of Michael Holt, the wit of Steve Davis, the insight of Alan McManus and the interaction of Shaun Murphy, to mention just a few.
