Snooker returns to terrestrial television this Monday for the first time since the World Championship, as we see the return of the invitational Champion of Champions event on ITV4.

As the eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed, with the help of Adam from the snookerinfo website, this season I am keeping a track of the professional centuries records, which you can find regularly updated at this page here.
While it might differ from the normal lists that I tend to follow in that it does not involve rankings, still there are a number of interesting points arising from it, not least Ronnie O’Sullivan’s pursuit of Stephen Hendry’s current record, which looks set to be bested at some stage this season…
Stuart Bingham’s victory at the Shanghai Masters yesterday marked not only his biggest tournament win to date, but also the end of the second stage of the 2014/15 season as the seedings are revised for the International Championship.

Three days down at the Shanghai Masters and with the conclusion of the last 32 round, already we have seen nine seeded players exit the tournament, including Neil Robertson, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump.

While Stephen Maguire today became a world champion with victory at the Sangsom Six Red World Championship, one further bonus from winning the event is that he became the eleventh player to secure his place in the 2014 edition of the invitational Champion of Champions tournament, set to be staged in Coventry this November.

Following next week’s 6 Reds World Championship in Thailand, the snooker circuit heads to China for the venue stages of the biggest ranking event of the campaign so far, the 2014 Shanghai Masters. The tournament also marks the second seedings revision of the current season, which although relatively insignificant compared to other cut-offs this season, could see the top ranking change for the third time this season.

Following Mark Selby’s victory at the first European Tour event of the season, it had been anticipated that the victory would be enough to see him climb back above Neil Robertson into top spot in snooker’s latest world rankings.
It now seems though that in fact the rankings will not be officially revised until after the next full ranking event, next month’s Shanghai Masters.

UPDATE: Since this article was posted, World Snooker have now published an updated ranking list, confirming that Mark Selby does in fact return to the world number one spot, as originally anticipated. Click here to view that at World Snooker.
Mark Selby is the 2014 Riga Open champion, the new world champion coming back from 3-0 down to defeat Mark Allen in a deciding frame this evening and get his season off to a flying start in Latvia.
