Today saw the completion of the preliminary round and as expected Jack Lisowski is through to face Liam Highfield in what will be a rematch of the Event One final – the joys of the unseeded draws in the competition!
As well as those two there are a number of other interesting round one ties such as Rodney Goggins v Stefan Mazrocis, both main tour players last season, while another former pro Aditya Mehta takes on 2008 Paul Hunter Scholar Adam Duffy. Another one to watch looks to be young Welshman Jamie Jones as he takes on David Craggs who of course was unlucky last season to miss out on a couple of important titles.
Such is the strength in depth on the series these days however that it could just as easily turn out that none of these players will win the event.
