While there is a long wait now until the UK Championship for the professional players, this week sees the resumption of the PIOS as event four gets underway at Prestatyn. Read on for the draw…
One of the most controversial aspects of the PIOS competition is the lack of seedings for its eight meetings and as is often the case, the draw for the latest event has thrown up some eye-catching opening round ties.
Strangely enough two of them involve the Craigie brothers as former professional Stephen takes on Irishman Rodney Goggins, while younger brother Sam faces talented young Scot Anthony McGill. The second of these matches in particular should be interesting because the pair met at the last 16 stage of last month’s third event and while Sam ran out a 4-1 winner, both are currently tied in 8th place in the rankings with 220 points and in with a real chance of promotion to the pro tour.
Elsewhere other highlights are an opening round clash between series leader Liam Highfield and Justin Astley, a tie between Shokat Ali (an event winner in 2008/9) and Gary Wilson and also Paul Davison against Matthew Day.
It will be as interesting as ever to see who will come through again this week in what is a most unpredictable competition…
