Congratulations to 18-year-old Kyren Wilson who this week took his first PIOS event victory to move himself up to third in the rankings and almost certainly book his place on the main tour next season…

Having reached the final of event three earlier in the season where he lost out to Paul Davison, Kyren went one better this week with an excellent 6-4 victory over number one ranked player Liam Highfield. Moving him onto 650 points, he now lies third, 270 points clear of ninth placed Robbie Williams, and should I think be sure of moving up onto the main tour next season.
Despite his final defeat against Kyren, young Liam Highfield has added yet another 220 points to his tally and now leads second placed Jack Lisowski by 90 points. As well as these three, Welshman Jamie Jones and Scot Anthony McGill also look likely to progress to the top flight, though both could probably do with one more quarter-final to make absolutely sure.
Beyond those players, the battle for the remaining spots remains intense with several very talented players such as former professionals Paul Davison, Stephen Craigie, Kurt Maflin and Alfie Burden in the hunt. That said, Alfie of course is already guaranteed a tour card following his victory in the World Amateur Championship.
