The past four days have seen the inaugural Pink Ribbon Tournament take place at the brand new South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester and tonight the tournament was won in style by world number 24 Michael Holt who knocked in breaks of 129, 127 and 114 to overcome Jimmy White…
A player who has saved some of his best snooker for the invitational events recently, Holt came into this evening’s final in ominous form have dismissed Tom Ford, Joe Perry and Gerard Greene for the loss of just one frame combined. Jimmy White too has excelled away from the main tour and his results today were just as impressive in a different way, deciding frame victories over Ricky Walden and Ryan Day enough to see him through to take on Holt this evening.
He could not make it three deciding frame victories however as despite a three frame burst from 5-2 down, including a break of 110 to level the match at 5-5, Holt was able to respond with a title-winning run of 129 to claim the £2,400 top prize and get his season off to the perfect start.
Unfortunately I was not able to get down to the venue to watch any of the snooker this week but I have met both Paul and Sarah Mount who are behind the tournament and had no doubt that the event and indeed the venue would prove to be a success. From the comments from players and spectators alike who have posted over at The Snooker Forum it would appear that the venue has been well-received and you can also view Monique Limbos’ photos from the week over by clicking the following links:
