As ever in the PTC there are a number of eye-catching ties right from the off, few more so than money list leader Mark Selby’s tie against young Zhang Anda who came so close to qualifying for the Shanghai Masters just a couple of weeks ago.
Stephen Hendry meanwhile makes his debut in the competition with a clash against countryman Anthony McGill and having opted out of the events to date, could do with a decent run in order to get some valuable match practice ahead of his Shanghai opener next month.
What of Ronnie O’Sullivan who will play in the PTC for the first time since his defeat at the hands of Jamie Cope at the start of the season? He has been handed a tough draw against Welshman Ryan Day who after finally getting a few wins on the board recently in tournament play will be hoping to really give his confidence a boost with victory over the former world number one.
Joining the above named players in what is a strong top half is 1997 world champion Ken Doherty who comes up against Stephen Craigie, the man who reached the semi-finals of the World Under-21 Championship this week where he came unstuck against his brother Sam, the eventual champion.
