The final of the 2013 Welsh Open will be contested between Scotland’s Stephen Maguire and England’s Stuart Bingham, after the pair both came through close semi-final contests yesterday.
For Bingham, his win came in a dramatic afternoon match with defending champion Ding Junhui, who having won three frames in a row from 4-2 down to lead 5-4, could not complete the comeback as Bingham saved his best until when it really mattered.
Stuart will now look to claim his second full-ranking event title against Maguire, who saw off a largely lacklustre Judd Trump in the evening session with a 6-4 victory. Having lost his last few finals, including the Welsh final here in Newport a couple of years ago, Stephen will be hoping to end a title drought which now dates back to the 2008 China Open.
