Congratulations to Paul Davison who has become the third winner of a PIOS event this season and in doing so given himself a real chance of returning to the main tour next season…
Having already recorded some strong wins against the likes of Michael Wasley, Rodney Goggins and in the semi-finals Kurt Maflin, Paul Davison has completed a brilliant week for him with a 6-4 victory over 17-year-old Kyren Wilson in today’s final.
After the two exchanged the first six frames, Wilson finally managed to break the pattern to go into the lead for the first time at 4-3. From there however it was one-way traffic as Paul registered breaks of 45 and 53 as he took the next three frames to take the match 6-4.
Now with 380 points in the bank, Paul is now well inside the top eight and in with a real chance of regaining his main tour place at the first attempt. If he does manage to make it back onto the circuit he will be hoping to do better than in 2008/9 when he won just four matches, finishing 89th in the final rankings.
For Kettering’s Kyren Wilson it has also been a positive week, the talented youngster taking his points tally up to 260 and putting himself right into contention for a top eight place himself. What will be more important for Kyren though is the experience of playing in a PIOS event for a full week which will no doubt serve him well in the future.
