Congratulations to world number 17 Barry Hawkins who defeated Michael Holt 5-1 today in a one-sided final to win the fifth event of the 2009/10 Pro Challenge Series…
Final
Michael Holt 1-5 Barry Hawkins
49-65(65), 0-123(123), 77(77)-0, 0-68(62), 20-71(52), 7-61(53)
Barry Hawkins came into today’s final as a slight favourite but as it turned out raced to an excellent victory over his opponent from Nottingham. Although Michael was able to make a break of 77 in frame three to get off the mark, this proved to be as good as it would get for him as Barry added breaks of 62, 53 and 52 to the runs of 123 and 65 he had already made to go 2-0 up.
It has been a mixed season for Barry so far on the ranking circuit but this should set him up well for a potential World Championship qualifier with Ian McCulloch, Liu Song or perhaps even Tony Drago. If he can qualify for the Crucible and go on to win his first match at the Sheffield venue then he will have an outside chance of moving back into the top 16 once again.
