As many of you will be aware, the role that Twitter is playing on the internet these days is ever increasing and in running this blog I have certainly not ignored that. Indeed there are a number of good people using the service these days and some of the comments posted during the final only seemed to add to the drama! Here are a few of the highlights…
Pre-match:
I got my pre-match predictions off to a fabulous start, something that did not go un-noticed:
- ProSnookerBlog
Prediction? 9-6 Higgins
- davehendon
@ProSnookerBlog it’s first to 10!
- RabPirrie
@ProSnookerBlog first to 10 remember! :^) 10-9 to MJW
From an early stage of the match, John did not look to have settled, while Williams looked to be in fine form. John though had his moments and the omens were good for him:
- ProSnookerBlog
John looks to be slightly anxious today, compared to in his semi anyway.
- davehendon
Williams clearly much more relaxed. Reprieved man syndrome.
- bbcsport_mark
A frame fresh from very toppest of drawers next to my socks. Wiliams leads 60-0. Surely in the bag? Higgins hits a 66 to get it back to 3-2
- davehendon
Williams now cueing superbly
- bbcsport_mark
Williams looks red-hot while Higgins looks a little overcome. Welshman deservedly leads 6-2 and they’re back at 2000GMT on BBC Two+website
- davehendon
Grand Prix final 1999: Williams led 6-2 after the first session, Higgins won 9-8
As the evening session progressed and John began to make his comeback, the nerves began to show and we just began to wonder. Me being me though, I thought that Mark would be able to get over the line. Oh how wrong I was…
- JohnMcBrideIRE
@jimmywhite147 Love to see John Higgins come back here.
- cookiemonsta75
@ProSnookerBlog I’m in players lounge Atmosphere is electric http://yfrog.com/h2y2hij
- bbcsport_mark
@JohnMcBrideIRE Welcome to the party. Now who would be surprised if I predicted this match going to a last frame? Midnight madness anyone?
- JohnMcBrideIRE
@bbcsport_mark I’ll be here to the finish. Knowing John Higgins, they’ll be plenty left in this match me thinks.
- bbcsport_mark
Higgins closes gap to 8-5 with 105 – it’s the first century of the match and his fourth of tournament. Brilliant. Plenty of mileage left no?
- ProSnookerBlog
@bbcsport_mark I dunno, Williams looks pretty unflappable himself…
- bbcsport_mark
I’m after a list of adjectives on how people are feeling right now. @ProSnookerBlog opens with “unflappable”. I’ll throw in a “wobbly”
- bbcsport_mark
Longest offering from @David Caulfield with “imperturbable”. “Uuuuu” is a corker from @snookermylove Squeaky bum-too many words but love it
- ProSnookerBlog
9-5 Williams, home and dry?
- phrakonline
@ProSnookerBlog dare i say it – he looks like he could be making one of the best comebacks ever!
- JohnMcBrideIRE
@ProSnookerBlog Maybe he’ll try to force it? I just want 9-9 & get #Snooker given some deserved cred again. 🙂
- ProSnookerBlog
John beginning to build some momentum now. Bouncebackability.
- bbcsport_mark
It’s happening isn’t it. I can feel it. I can smell it. Higgins now trails 9-7. Now who’s putting the kettle on?
I could not resist a chance to get on my longer frames soapbox…
- ProSnookerBlog
Sensational stuff. Anyone in any doubt that the longer format matches are the best now?
- JohnMcBrideIRE
@ProSnookerBlog Yes!
- phrakonline
@ProSnookerBlog wowaweewa!
- Lodgie
@ProSnookerBlog this is why the longer games are great.
- Wilco04
@ProSnookerBlog need a variety but long format is best by far!
- ashpope
@ProSnookerBlog I agree, you just can’t beat late night snooker on the BBC!!!!
9-7, Mark in the balls, surely it was over…or not!
- ProSnookerBlog
Oh dear. Last shot?
- JohnMcBrideIRE

- ProSnookerBlog
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!
- bbcsport_mark
Now where are those creatures. I need them. My ticker can’t take this. The red dances in the jaws and Williams falters on 61. OOOoofff
- ProSnookerBlog
Well, well, 29 behind, 27 on and Mark swerves into the right centre. Can John take the colours?
- jimmywhite147

Apologies for going AWOL. Important things to do elsewhere. I’m still gobsmacked. truly. My head is fried.
- ProSnookerBlog
@bbcsport_mark Admit it, you chewed your fingers off didn’t you?
- bbcsport_mark
@ProSnookerBlog I type this tweet with mere stumps for fingers. I was more worried about my ticker than my digits to be honest
- cookiemonsta75

Great stuff from Higgins and Williams. To quote Josh Lyman: they’re scraping faces off Mount Rushmore
- davehendon
Credit as well to Mark for the way he took defeat. Top bloke.
- peteferg
Brilliant doubled brown by Higgins, new UK champion! The Wizard is back #snooker
- davehendon
Proof that snooker can still deliver without the need for gimmicks. Sleep now.
