Round three is where the action really hots up at the Q School and today has been no exception as a number of high quality players clashed as they bid to secure a place on the main tour.
Among those to progress from round three without too much trouble were David Gray Tian Pengfei, David Gilbert, Li Hang, Li Yan, Adam Duffy and Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon. Of those David Gilbert was probably the most impressive as he continued his strong form during this competition with two century breaks against Martin O’Donnell while a 4-0 victory for Li Hang against Antony Parsons was also a very good result.
It was not so straightforward for Kyren Wilson in the battle of the On Q Promotions youngsters however as for much of his match with Michael Wasley it was the latter who held the upper hand. Kyren though as he has done so often during the Q School was able to display great resilience and hung in there before coming through to take what was a tense final match of the morning session in a deciding frame. Next up for him will be Li Yan who ended the run of Aussie Vinnie Calabrese with a convincing 4-0 win.
Also coming through a tense match was Ireland’s David Morris who edged out former World U-21 Champion Gary Wilson following another deciding frame. He will now meet former Paul Hunter Scholar Adam Duffy who had a slightly easier match against Saqib Nasir, winning 4-1.
There was to be disappointment for young Ben Harrison who found himself on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline against another youngster, Sheffield’s Joel Walker. Having trailed 2-0 early on it appeared as though there was a momentum switch as Harrison took frame four on the black to level at 2-2 but Walker was not to be denied and added the next two for victory. He will now meet the experienced Simon Bedford who won a hard-fought contest with the impressive Stuart Carrington.
