Following on from his dramatic quarter-final win this afternoon, Grimsby veteran Mike Hallett enjoyed a more straightforward passage into his first PIOS final against Stephen Rowlings tonight. Taking the match 5-2, Hallett now guarantees himself at least 220 points from the event which will do his chances of a top 8 spot at the end of the season the world of good. I’m not sure what happened to Rowlings, his quarter-final match was the last to finish so perhaps he had not quite recovered in time for this match. Still a semi-final run is not too bad.
In the final Hallett will play Bolton’s Craig Steadman who emerged from a much closer contest against Jamie O’Neill. Winning the Pontin’s Open last month has seemingly given Craig something of a confidence boost and like Hallett he has done his chances of ending up in the top 8 at the end of the season no harm at all.
It should be an interesting final tomorrow, with Steadman’s good form recently both here and in the Pontin’s Open, I would make him favourite, but it would be brilliant to see Mike Hallett come through.
The final starts at 10:00am so check back both here and on GSC for updates.
