Bolton’s Craig Steadman went a long way towards securing a spot on the main tour for 2009/10 as he defeated Mike Hallett this morning to win event four of the PIOS. Winning 6-1, it was a much more straightforward win than his nailbiting 5-4 semi-final victory last night, though many of the frames were close affairs. Without making any big breaks Steadman did enough to move 5-0 ahead and though Hallett managed to avoid the whitewash, defeat was inevitable at this point and Craig wrapped it up in frame seven.

What this now means is that Craig will receive the maximum 300 points from the event, taking his total to a healthy 470. In the last two seasons 620 and 570 have been enough to secure an all-important top eight place so with four events still to come, Steadman has an excellent chance of progressing to the main tour.

As for Hallett, while he will be disappointed not to win the final, I’m sure that he will be pleased with his week overall, his best ever in a PIOS event. His 220 points take his total up to 320 which while leaving him some work to do in order to end the season in the top eight, gives him every chance should he keep up the form he has shown this week.
