Another tournament, another maximum break as Norway’s Kurt Maflin hit a perfect 147 during the opening frame of his third round match with former professional Stuart Carrington yesterday. The second maximum of his career, the break earns him £500 from the rolling prize fund and perhaps more importantly, set him on his way to a 4-1 win and a place in tomorrow’s last 16.
As well as being an important event in its own right, the run has propelled Kurt up into the fight for a place in the all-important top 25 on the PTC Order of Merit, with every point potentially crucial with PTC Grand Finals places up for grabs. The latest (and regularly update table), can be viewed here at snookerorg, while I will of course post an updated breakdown at the conclusion of the event, with just the last 32 of the final ET event in Munich to be completed.
Also at a key stage is the battle for for the top eight amateur places, with the reward of main tour places for those finishing within that bracket. Those currently in position to qualify are highlighted in green on the above list, with only Kyren Wilson and Justin Astley qualified for the ET6 event in Munich.
