Ahead of next week’s Australian Goldfields Open, there was success in South Korea today for China’s Cao Yupeng, who defeated countryman Ding Junhui to win the men’s singles event for snooker at the 2013 Asian Indoor Games…
Through to the final following a comfortable 4-1 victory against Afghanistan’s Saleh Mohammad in the semi-finals, Cao then saw off Chinese number one Ding Junhui 4-2 to take gold in Incheon.
Succeeding another Chinese player, Jin Long as champion of the event, the victory is another boost for a player who has made a strong start to the 2013/14 season, notably having reached the quarter-finals of a full-ranking event for the first time at the recent Wuxi Classic.
As runner-up, Ding Junhui takes the silver medal, while India’s Aditya Mehta takes bronze, having lost out to Ding in the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, Xiao Guodong was able to successfully defend the six-reds event, that he first won four years ago in Vietnam, while China made it a clean sweep in the men’s snooker events by taking the team event, Ding Junhui, Liang Wenbo and Tian Pengfei making up the team.
