Level 1:
In short
This level is aimed at equipping candidates with the skills to organise a snooker event and to develop junior clubs within their area and give delegates an introduction on how to coach the basics of the game.
This will involve Child Protection/Safeguarding training, an enhanced DBS check and understanding where to get help regarding the rules and coaching. This is a one-day course and will be delivered by Chris Lovell, Andrew Highfield and Chris Motley- Cost £199.00.

This level is aimed at anyone aged 16 and above who wants to take the first steps to become a coach and develop their skills to support a qualified coach in their area or simply have the skills and knowledge to organise and develop snooker sessions in their club or school.
The one-day course gives you an insight in how to engage people of any age, male and female, into the game.
TRAINING AND DEMONSTRATIONS ARE GIVEN ON:
- An introduction to the basics of the game
- How to find a club/school and get them interested in supporting you
- How to communicate to people taking part and keep them interested in developing their snooker skills
- How to organise competitions and events
- How to engage participants with bite sized fun games on the snooker table
- Child Protection/Safeguarding
- The Paul Hunter Foundation
- Cue Zone Into Schools including Functional Snooker
- The rules of the game

10.00am – Welcome and Introductions
- An overview of the activities of the WPBSA/World Snooker
10.30am – How to develop snooker in your area including:
- Setting up your own Cue Zone in your local school or club
- Supporting World Snooker in promoting events
11.00am – How to organise a competition/draw including the issue of various types of draw sheets
11.30am – Making snooker fun, how to use different types of snooker games to engage people of all ages
12.30pm – Lunch
1.00pm – Cue Zone into Schools featuring Functional Snooker
1.30pm – An introduction to the basics with Andrew Highfield
2.30pm – The Paul Hunter Foundation

This one-day course includes lunch and refreshments, delivery material to organise events etc. polo shirt with the community WPBSA logo to wear when delivering sessions or attending events, certificate, WPBSA rule book, full after course support, access to attend (free as part of their membership) the twice yearly coaching seminars held at the UK and World Championships with other members of the coaching team, together with Steve Davis and Terry Griffiths.
Please note: the achievement of the certificate is through attendance on the day.
Level 2:
In short
This level is aimed at equipping candidates with how to deliver:
- An in-depth knowledge of delivering the basics of the game
- Understanding technique against text book theories
- How to promote/market yourself as a coach to set up as a full/ part time business
- Full child protection/safeguarding training and an enhanced DBS Check
This is a two day course and will be delivered by Steve Davis and Chris Lovell, Andrew Highfield and Chris Motley- Cost £899 includes hotel, refreshments and coach’s tool kit.

This will be carried out with the WPBSA’s Lisa Bray. Please ensure you bring the appropriate and up to date documents as specified, full details will be emailed to you prior to the course.
Team meal
Friday 3rd July 2015, with Steve Davis in the Northern Snooker Centre followed by the 60 Second Challenge coach’s competition.
The team meal is not included in the course fee. It has proved highly successful in enabling people on the course to grow as a team and also an opportunity to network on a social basis.
Your cue
Please bring your own cue in order to take part in the practical exercises. Please let us know in advance if this is a problem and we will provide a cue for the course duration.

Day 1 – Friday 3rd July 2015
8.15am – Meet Hotel Reception -Travel to The Northern Snooker Centre
8.30am – Produce items for DBS check to Lisa Bray
9.00am – Welcome & Introductions – Chris Lovell, Jason Ferguson, Steve Davis, Lisa Bray, Andrew Highfield
9.30am – The Basics Part 1 – An Introduction and overview led by Andrew Highfield and Steve Davis, this session will allow delegates the opportunity to observe Steve and Andrew coach the basics of the game to a pupil from picking up a cue to addressing the cue ball
12.30pm – Lunch
1.00pm – The Basics Part 2- The opportunity to question Andrew and Steve on common faults which players develop and how best to correct them with demonstrations from Steve & the team.
How to deliver a lesson, Andrew Highfield and Steve Davis will demonstrate how to conduct a basic lesson including the initial assessment of the player. The group will then practise a basic lesson with Steve and Andrew’s support & advice
4.00pm – WPBSA World Snooker Coach Examination- Part 1
Each delegate will conduct a lesson lasting up to 30 minutes to include the basics of the game, together with instances of how to support and improve players who deviate from the text book approach whilst maintaining a good playing standards expected of a Professional WPBSA World Snooker Coach.
6.00pm – Day 1 concludes – Optional practise sessions are available within the Northern Snooker Centre until 7pm, please note that table fees are not covered within the course
8.15pm – Meet in the Northern Snooker Centre for the course team dinner with Steve and the Team
The 60 Second Challenge Coach’s Competition & Networking
Day 2 – Saturday 4th July 2015

8.30am – Child Protection/Safeguarding with Chris Motley
Delegates will understand their responsibilities in supporting children’s safety whilst in their care in line with the NSPCCs Code of Practice
An explanation of types of child protection/safeguarding situations a coach may come in contact with and how the WPBSA will support coach’s.
10.30am – Steve Davis will examine different types of technical scenarios, using Joe Davis’ bible “How I play snooker, which will allow delegates to develop their technical knowledge of the game. This session will involve group discussion and feedback.
12.00pm – Lunch
12.30pm – Steve Davis – Session Continues
By the end of the session delegates will be able to differentiate between various types of techniques and demonstrate to the group verbally how they would address this through their coaching methods.
2.00pm – How to promote yourself

Each delegate will then sit a written paper covering the basics of the game, and the standards expected of a Professional WPBSA World Snooker Coach.
Delegates will be graded as follows:
- Outstanding, 85+ marks (Level 2 WPBSA World Snooker Coach)
- Good, 66-84 marks (Level 2 WPBSA World Snooker Coach)
- Satisfactory, 51-65 marks (Level 2 WPBSA World Snooker Coach)
- Further development required, 50 marks and below (Level 1 WPBSA World Snooker Coach)
6.00pm – Approx. Course concludes
Following the course, delegates will receive a certificate and a letter confirming their achievement including their grade.
Delegates will be given the opportunity to resit any parts, which receive a further development grade, free of charge.
