With the 2009/10 PIOS getting underway tomorrow, Sportingbet.com are running a market on the first event and their odds make for interesting reading…

EDIT: Note now that the market is closed.
Joint favourites for the event at 9/1 are Alfie Burden and Shokat Ali, both experienced former main tour players who finished 12th and 13th in the PIOS rankings respectively last season. Shokat’s best finish was a victory in Event Three while Alfie managed to make it to the final of Event Five.
Close behind those two are six players who were relegated from the main tour last season, headed by Kuldesh Johal who back in 2007/8 finished top of the PIOS, winning two events and setting a record points tally in the process.
Slightly further out are the likes of Anthony McGill, Jack Lisowski and Liam Highfield, three promising young players who will all be looking to get off to a good start as they seek a place on the main tour. Lisowski in particular could be a decent shout at 20/1 as he did make the final of Event Six last year, only to have nothing left in the tank when up against Xiao Guodong.
Whatever happens it will be very interesting to see how it goes so be sure to check over at Global Snooker this week for the latest scores.
