Rumours have been circulating today regarding Mark Williams and it has now been confirmed over at Global Snooker that he has suffered a broken right wrist and must now be considered a serious doubt for his season opening match against Joe Swail out in Shanghai…

Having made it back inside the top 16 this is a real blow for the former world champion as currently lying in 18th place on the latest provisional list, he cannot afford to be missing any of this season’s six ranking events if he wants to stay there.
His last 32 tie with Joe Swail in Shanghai however could well come too soon. Looking back to Graeme Dott last season who also suffered a break to his bridging arm, he did not return to action until the Bahrain Championship almost six weeks after his accident. Even then he was understandably short of match practice and found himself losing out to Barry Pinches in his opening match before finally getting back to winning ways at the UK Championship in Telford a month later.
Will Mark retain his place in the 16?
