Q School 2015: Starts Thursday

Barely more than a week on from Stuart Bingham’s victory at the Crucible, snooker returns tomorrow with the start of this year’s Q School events, this year to be held at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton for the first time.

As was the case last year, there will be eight main tour cards up for grabs from two events, as well as important places on the Q School Order of Merit, from which the likes of Ashley Carty were able to enter so many events last season and gain valuable experience, despite having missed out on a professional place.

The first event will run until next Tuesday, when the first four of the promoted professionals will be confirmed.

You can view the draws for event one and event two at Snookerorg, while entry is free for anyone in the area who would like to go along and watch. Live scores are also available here.

Best of luck to all of the players involved!

Akbar Wins Asian Championship

Away from the Crucible, another tour place for the 2015/16 season has today been claimed, as Pakistan’s Hamza Akbar has defeated former professional Pankaj Advani 7-6 to claim the 2015 Asian Championship in Cheras, Malaysia.

Akbar’s victory earns him a two-year tour card starting from next season and means that aside from Q School, there appear to be just two professional places still to be claimed for next season, as you can see here at my updated roll call article.
