With just two tournaments still to be played this season and both the European and Asian Orders of Merit now set, the battle for main tour places next season is now down to the two final events, the China Open and World Championship.

Following the conclusion of the 2014 Haikou World Open yesterday, the picture is now somewhat clearer as far as the World Championship seedings are concerned, with the identity of the top 16 players seeded through to the Crucible Theatre now confirmed.
Still, there are still changes that can occur during the upcoming Players Championship Grand Finals tournament in Preston, both to the placing of the seeds in the main draw and also the top 64 bracket…
Congratulations to Stuart Bingham who has today defeated Liang Wenbo 4-1 to win the Asian Tour Four event in Dongguan, his first title of the season and third Asian Tour event overall since their introduction in 2012. The victory means that Stuart will take home the top prize of £10,000, as well as a special gift from the sponsors as he has tweeted earlier today.
Aside from Stuart’s success, the end of this end also marks the end of the 2013/14 Asian Tour, now confirming who has qualified for the Players Championship Grand Finals later this month and which four player will earn a tour-year tour card from the list.

Monday at the Newport Centre and today we have seen the start of the last 64 of the Welsh Open, as the television coverage got underway on BBC2 Wales and Eurosport…
Day one at the Welsh Open in Newport and it has been a case of so far, so good for the top players in action, with former champions Stephen Maguire, Ding Junhui, Ali Carter and Ronnie O’Sullivan among the winners today.

As those of you who have followed my updates both on the blog and on Twitter will be aware (and probably sick of reading), it has been a big weekend in Gdynia for those players battling it out for their main tour places for next season, with eight places available through the European Order of Merit.

The eighth event of the 2013/14 European Tour is now underway in Gdynia and as explained earlier in the week, the implications of the event in terms of tour survival is significant, with the finalisation of the European Order of Merit after this event.
